The Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Unit is a 24 bed unit located in Building 3, Level 2. The nursing staff assists patients and their families toward maximal independence. The concept of interdisciplinary care is central to the unit milieu. One of the major nursing professional roles is patient and family education. Self care is integral to the nursing paradigm of the Spinal Cord Unit. Nurses are experts in rehabilitation nursing especially in the areas of wound and skin care, bowel and bladder management, and patient positioning, The SCI Nursing Unit consists of Registered Nurses, Nursing Aides, Ward Clerks, and an Interpreter.
