I am a 71 years old Saudi patient, from Medina. I suffer from diabetes mellitus
(past 15 years); my diabetes is managed with insulin. Also I suffer from Hypertension
(past 10 years), that is managed with medication, and what worsen my case is that
I’m obese, too. On my initial admission to Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Humanitarian City,
I was admitted with left Hemiplegia due to suffering an Ischemic stroke. I also
suffered Left-sided facial palsy. My admission was for a total of 6 weeks. The muscle
power in the upper limb was zero and in the lower limb was fair. My rehabilitation
stay lasted 3 months and I was discharged in July 2011. Visible improvement in my
overall functional condition was observed. Back to my first admission, I was totally
dependent in all functional aspects. However after the first comprehensive rehabilitative
program which involved medical Services, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Therapeutic
Rehabilitation and Dietetics, I’m now able to ambulate using a quad cane and perform
wheelchair propulsion independently. I’m also able to perform Activities of Daily
living with and without assistance. To date, 19 October 2011, it is my second admission
and there is visible improvement. I have improved in bed mobility, able to transfer
with moderate assistance and propel the wheelchair by myself. My sitting and standing
balance has also improved. Also I improved in my ability to perform Activities of
Daily Living. In addition to this, the experiences pain in the UE decreased ROM
in the left UE and increased muscle tone. Overall I’m really motivated to improve
and maintain my improvement with strong faith and powerful hope.
